OSGOOD K-1 Center PTO Meeting
Monday, November 14, 2011
1. Welcome and Introductions
a. The attendance sheet was passed around.
2. Book Fair Update (Becky Dockter)
a. We raised about $1000 over last year, and were able to purchase about $3000 of new materials for the library.
b. We discussed that maybe at the next book fair we would allocate some of the funds to allow the teachers to choose materials for their individual classrooms as well.
3. Events Committee Update (Betsy Dodds)
a. Penny & Pals will be January 12 @ 1PM
b. Chuck E Cheese Family Event is scheduled for Dec 5 (Pre-K and 1st Grade) and Dec 6 (K)
– note that if you can’t go the night your grade is scheduled, you can certainly go the other night as well. Tell them you are with the Osgood K-1 Center when you order and PTO will get 15% of the sales.
4. Santa Visit (Lisa Giese –Laura Deltener)
a. Date is tentatively set for Dec 21
b. We now have a costume that was donated by Tracy Boehm – Thank you Tracy!
c. Volunteers were needed for shopping and Santa—Thank you to Betsy Dodds and Sharon Boeshans for volunteering to shop and to Roland Lade for volunteering to be Santa.
5. Box Top Update
a. Around $1600.00 was brough in during the September contest.
b. Mrs. Rensch’s class won the September contest and is having an ice cream party
c. We decided that going forward, the winning classes for box top contests would be randomly drawn—to ease the tracking process and pass around the opportunities. We will not share this change in procedure with the students at this time.
6. School Updates
a. The Gym and Music Room will be ready for use November 28
b. There are two new staff: Theresa Schaefer (Resource Room) & Jane Strand (Special Ed Para)
c. After our December meeting, we will be able to take a tour of the school so we can see all the new spaces.
7. Budget Discussion
a. Requests Submission Process? Shannon Jantzi will create a form that teachers could use to make requests, which would then be reviewed by Darren Sheldon and forwarded to the PTO. She will bring an example to our next meeting and we will discuss how to move forward and how the process would work going forward.
i. Kindergarten field trip to Red River Zoo was tabled until our next meeting so the Kindergarten teachers could discuss as a group if they wanted to do this or suggest an alternative.
ii. The purchase of 4 additional cameras and a SD card for each classroom was voted on and approved.
iii. Sound Amplifiers were also tabled until our next meeting as we were still waiting for quotes on the systems.
8. New or Other Business
a. Holiday giving—Roland Lade suggested some kind of holiday giving that the students could participate in. After some discussion, we decided to sponsor a holiday book drive and donate the books to a local organization. Roland Lade will organize this.
b. Yearbook update—The discs with the individual photos have been received and teachers are encouraged to keep snapping photos. Planning for the yearbook will begin after the 1st of the year.
